Located in Houston, Texas, Legacy Rags was founded in 2011 by the son of a father who had a well-established name in the used clothing industry. But if it weren’t for a missed flight, Legacy Rags might not have been established at all. Let me explain.

When the founder, Khurum Choudry, was in his late twenties, he was determined to make a name for himself and get out from under the shadow of his father, who worked his way from being an immigrant from Pakistan to a very successful entrepreneur in the United States. Khurum had many ideas for businesses that he would start, only for those businesses to fail a short time later. His final bright idea, before he established Legacy Rags, was to buy “items” (what these items were, even he didn’t know) for a lower cost from Chinese factories and sell them for a profit here in the United States. He believed so much in this idea that he booked a flight to China to visit factories and source these items that he believed he would easily sell for a profit. On the day of his flight, he made his way to the airport, completely certain that THIS was going to be the business that finally worked. When he made it to the ticket counter to check in for his flight, the gate agent gave him a weird look. She said, “Sir, this flight was actually for yesterday.” Embarrassed, he walked out of the airport, and in that very moment, he decided that he needed to heed the wisdom of his father and get into the family business. The very next day he started formulating the plan for what would turn into Legacy Rags. He wanted to carry on the “Legacy” of the family business, in a business he created from scratch, and Legacy Rags was born.

That missed flight was the best thing that ever happened to Khurum. Had he gotten on that plane, who knows how much more precious time would have been wasted. Missing that flight gave him the opportunity to start a business that he is passionate about and meet and serve customers from all over the world!
